A beloved 81-year-old grandfather has been found sipping on a pint in Wetherspoons after he went missing for more than a week.
His family revealed they were left “broken” by his disappearance after the pensioner vanished last Thursday afternoon (September 14).
The unexplained disappearance left his family distraught with worry as a national search was quickly launched.
However, thankfully Ronald Webster, known as ‘Ronnie’, was found on Friday (September 22), his family and the police have revealed.
The 81-year-old disappeared from his home with only the clothes on his back, leaving his medication and phone behind, granddaughter Paige Tattersall previously told the Manchester Evening News.
Ronnie was “pottering around in his garden” before he caught a bus last week only to be found safe and well in a Piccadilly Gardens pub sipping on a pint.
His granddaughter joked: “He’s absolutely fine he was just scared of going back to my gran I think! He knows he’s in trouble!!”
After being officially reported missing to Greater Manchester Police last Thursday, it was revealed that the beloved grandfather was last seen on Walkers Road in Oldham at around 1.05pm.
However, in an update, police said Ronnie was spotted just an hour later at 2.15pm catching the 184 bus heading to Huddersfield.
Multiple police forces and other agencies were all involved in the desperate hunt for the missing grandfather.
It has been a torturous week for Ronnie’s family, who said: “He has no reason to have just upped and left, the date has no significance and he has no friends or relatives that he is trying to get to.
“We are all worried sick, we just want to know he’s safe and well. It’s out of character for him to leave and not come home. His coat isn’t very thick and it doesn’t have a hood. His wife, my grandma, is heartbroken. She hasn’t slept since he left, she just wants her husband home safe.”
After the police thankfully found Ronnie, his granddaughter took to social media to share the happy news.
The post, which has around two thousand likes, reads: “They have found him!!!! Will update properly soon but he’s coming home!”

Paige expressed her relief as she told Yorkshire Live: “He was in bloody Wetherspoons in Manchester drinking a pint [before] coming home. He got the train from Huddersfield to Scarborough to Bridlington like we thought.
“He’s absolutely fine he was just scared of going back to my gran I think! He knows he’s in trouble!!”
The doting granddaughter added: “We are absolutely elated. To get that phone call that they have found him safe and well will never ever be compared. And then to be able to reunited him grandma. We can all sleep tonight knowing he’s home safe where he belongs.”
Greater Manchester Police tweeted just after 2.30pm on Friday: “We are pleased to be able to share with you that we have found missing Ronnie safe and well, following a phenomenal effort from members of the public and police officers.
“He has been reunited with his family.”
